Perfect For

Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Bernedoodles, Cavapoos, Poodles, and any dog with a coat that mats, especially behind the ears, under the collar, under the legs, and anywhere friction likes to show off.

Key Benefits

  • Softens tight mats and tangles so brushing feels calmer, easier, and less stressful for you and your dog.
  • Helps you catch trouble spots early before they turn into a last minute shave down.
  • Pairs with the Rake Brush for short, outside-in strokes that help you work through mats with more control and less pulling.
  • A go-to step for at home coat care between grooming visits, especially for doodles, poodles, and other curly coats prone to matting.

How to use

Apply generously until the mat is fully damp. Massage it in and let it sit for 2 minutes. Hold the hair at the base to reduce pulling, then use short strokes starting at the tips of the hair, slowly working your way down to the skin. The mat will release a little at a time with each stroke. Be patient…the goal is less force for a easier brush through.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What does Emergency Dematter Cream help with?

Our Emergency Dematter Cream is for the moments when regular brushing is no longer enough. It softens tight mats, compacted knots, and stubborn tangles so you can work through them more calmly and with less force.

2. How do I use Emergency Dematter Cream?

Apply it generously until the mat is fully damp, massage it in, and let it sit for about 2 minutes. Hold the hair at the base to reduce pulling, then use short, controlled strokes starting at the ends and slowly working inward. Pair it with our Rake Brush for the best shot at saving the coat.

3. Does it replace brushing?

No. Our Emergency Dematter Cream is meant to make brushing through a mat easier, not replace the brushing step. Once the cream has softened the area, use the right brush and go slowly.

4. What coat types is it best for?

Doodles, poodles, and other curly or mat-prone coats are where this product really shines, especially behind the ears, under the collar, under the legs, and in other friction spots where mats like to build fast.

5. Can I use it as part of regular maintenance?

Yes, but think of it as your backup for problem spots, not your daily first step. Once you work through the mat, switch back to our Pin Brush and Detangling Treatment for regular maintenance so you can help stop the next big mat before it starts.

6. Are your ingredients healthy and thoughtfully chosen?

Yes. We build our liquids around herbal ingredients like calendula flower extract, hibiscus flower extract, burdock root extract, and nettle leaf extract instead of generic bargain-shelf formulas built around the cheapest possible ingredients. Our formulas are vegan, cruelty free, and made to feel gentle on the coat and skin.

7. How often will I actually need Emergency Dematter Cream and how long will a bottle last?

Most owners reach for it when a tight mat shows up that brushing alone will not handle. Some dogs need it monthly, some only a few times a year, depending on the coat and how consistent your weekly brushing has been. We walk through real usage scenarios on the blog so you can plan ahead: https://www.skipthegroomer.com/blogs/featured/how-long-does-a-bottle-really-last

8. Will Emergency Dematter Cream work on my dog's mat?

Most mats yes, but not every mat. Emergency Dematter Cream works when you can still slide a finger between the mat and the skin and the mat moves a little when you tug it gently. If the mat is pressed flat against the skin, hard like felt all the way through, or your dog flinches when you touch it, the mat has gone past what any home product can safely handle. That one belongs with a professional groomer.

9. The cream feels stiff or dried in the coat. What did I do wrong?

Usually one of two things. Either the mat did not get fully damp before you waited, or the cream sat too long without enough product underneath it. Apply generously until the mat feels saturated, wait about two minutes, and start brushing while it is still wet and slippery. If the coat starts to feel stiff, add more cream and keep working. The cream is meant to stay wet while you brush, not dry in place.

10. Is this for everyday tangles or only for mats?

Only for mats and tight knots. If you are dealing with everyday tangles, rough spots, or a coat that just feels a little knotty after play, our Detangling Treatment is the right step. Save the Emergency Dematter Cream for the moments brushing alone is not enough. Using it on light tangles is overkill and will not feel any different from a regular conditioner.
