Where Skip the Groomer Actually Comes From (The Honest Version)
Kathy still talks about the day our doodle had her litter — nine puppies, wall to wall, and not one of them with the same coat. Nine dogs. Nine different textures. Nine grooming problems we had absolutely no clue how to handle.
That's the real reason this brand exists. Not a boardroom. Our kitchen floor, covered in puppies.
Here's the part nobody warns you about: when we went looking for products good enough for those pups, we figured we'd just… buy them. Then Will started reading labels. And flipping bottles over. And calling factories to ask what was actually inside.
What we found is that a lot of pet-care brands use the same factories, the same formulas, and the same labels — with a different logo slapped on top. We didn't want to be another logo. So we did the slow, annoying, expensive thing and built our own. Here's an honest look at how — and where — that actually happens.
Made in the USA, everywhere we can manage it
Every formula we make — every chew, every bottle of coat care — is made in the United States. That's a choice, not a slogan. It keeps things close enough that Will can pick up the phone and get a real human answer, not an email three time zones away.
Now the part most brands would quietly leave out: our tools. Our brushes and rakes are made overseas right now. We've looked hard for a U.S. shop that can build them to the quality and durability we want, and we haven't found the right fit yet. We're still looking. The day we find it, we'll switch — and we'll tell you when we do. Honest means honest, even when it's not the flattering answer.
The chews
Our soft chews are made right here in the USA, to the standards of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) — the toughest quality bar in the pet-supplement world, built on independent audits and real labeling rules. Ours come out of an NASC-member facility that's held that line for over a decade.
And every ingredient, every amount, is printed on the label. No “proprietary blend” quietly hiding how little of the good stuff actually made it in. If it's on the bag, it's in the chew. That was Will's rule from day one, and honestly, it started as him being annoyed at everyone else's labels.
The coat care
Our shampoos, Detangling Treatment, and Emergency Dematter are made in an FDA-registered, cGMP-compliant facility with a couple of decades of clean-formulation experience behind it. The herbal blend — calendula, hibiscus, burdock, nettle — was formulated and extracted specifically for us. It is not a stock formula off a shelf with our name taped over someone else's.
Cruelty-free, and we can prove it
We're Leaping Bunny certified. Never tested on animals, and the formulas are vegan. This one isn't up for debate in our house — Kathy made sure of that. And Leaping Bunny is the gold standard, so it's not a feel-good word we printed on a label. We earned the little bunny.
A quick word about groomers
We're not trying to replace your groomer. They're the pros, and your dog will always strut out of their chair looking better than we could manage. What we care about is the in-between — the weeks at home between appointments, when the mats and the shedding and the muddy-paw afternoons are all yours. That part, with the right stuff, you've absolutely got.
Where we're headed
We're small, and we're not going to pretend we've got everything figured out. We're working on cutting packaging waste and moving toward recyclable materials wherever we can do it without putting the product at risk. As we grow, we'll keep raising our own bar — and keep telling you the truth about where we are on it.
If you've ever stood in a store aisle, flipped a bottle over, and squinted at the ingredients wondering what half of them were even doing there — that instinct is a good one. Keep doing it. With our stuff or anybody's.
And if there's something you wish we made, or made better, tell us. Kathy reads these, and she'll write back. — Will & Kathy
